Forward

Every book I love starts before it starts. There’s a page or two at the front where the author tells you how the thing came to be, and why they bothered. This is that page for Bare Heights, except I wrote it in songs.

These five came first. The Start, Steps, Steady, Spring and Over. I released them one at a time through 2023, and each one came out of something I was living through. I wrote a little about every one of them here.

I called it Forward on purpose. A foreword is what comes before the story. But forward is also a direction, and after the years we had been through, it was the only direction I was interested in. Not back. Not stuck. Forward.

If you read the five stories in order, you’ll notice they aren’t polished. They’re a guy figuring it out one step at a time, which is kind of the point. You don’t get to the water without the walk.

So start here. Start with THE START. Then keep going.
